Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Neuro-Linguistic Programmingby Chris Collingwood NLP Trainer Assessor1. What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)? NLP is a new field of endeavour that studies exceptional people with intent to build teachable models of human excellence. As such it provides an incredibly useful methodology for anybody engaged in life coaching and business coaching. Begun by Dr John Grinder and Richard Bandler, it explores the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate verbally (linguistic)and non-verbally and how we demonstrate our patterns of behaviour and emotion (programmes). 2. How does NLP make the difference to successful coaching? Through modelling excellence NLP offers a window into the way we function (our neuro-linguistic programmes) and a methodology for creating change. It can make a significant difference in assisting coaching clients to have more choice in their behaviour, emotions and the beliefs they hold. There are specific models within the field of NLP for teaching people how to change habits and other behaviour, how to explore and change states of emotion and how to define, identify, and change beliefs, even self concept. In the 25 years since it was first created NLP has established a reputation as the preferred approach to creating useful change in people's lives. As NLP is a field that attends to "how" human communication and behaviour functions it is particularly useful in helping clients improve their communication in difficult situations and enhance their relationships in both professional and personal lives. 3. What is national accreditation and what are the advantages of having a nationally accredited course in NLP for people wanting to become a life coach? In Australia we have a government guide line for overseeing formal accreditation of courses called the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). This creates a system for recognition of training and formal qualifications through state accreditation bodies in Australia. Inspiritive has produced a course in Neuro-Linguistic Programming that has been accredited through the Victorian Qualifications Authority (VQF) and is nationally recognised in Australia. Nationally accredited courses are required to have specified performance criteria (outcomes), competencies and measurable evidence for assessment of students. Our accredited course the Graduate Certificate in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (21576VIC) provides measurable NLP skill development of immense use to people engaged in coaching others. It is a professional post graduate qualification in NLP. Coaching students have the benefit of a course that teaches models for developing human excellence with measurable student outcomes while developing competency in producing change in self and others. These are valuable skills for coaching others effectively. 4. What is the difference between the nationally accredited Graduate Certificate in NLP and many of the other courses for training to become a life coach? NLP works with the processes and patterns of human communication that produce change in people. A properly qualified practitioner of NLP can track the significant patterns of any life coaching client without getting caught up in the content of the client's story. There is no need to delve into the client's personal details. Instead the client is taken through exercises that assist them in finding their own solutions and resources. This makes a coaching session with a NLP trained coach a far more ethical endeavour. A NLP trained coach will not advise a client, they create a context for clients to be able to change themselves. The Grad Cert in NLP provides a pattern and process oriented methodology for coaching in contrast to other forms of life coaching which use a content based approach. Within Australia it is the first and only nationally accredited training for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Internationally, our course is endorsed by co-creator of NLP Dr. John Grinder. 5. How can I benefit from this technology? There are two possible ways to benefit from NLP. One, you can book a session with one of our Life coaches to work with specific outcomes for your life. This will give you a good taste of the effectiveness of NLP based life coaching. Two, you can benefit through attending our next Graduate Certificate in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and make changes in your life, enhance your communication and relating skills while learning a wonderful approach for assisting others at the same time. 6.
